"Voice - Piano - Digital Recording "
Lila began piano lessons at age 6, flute at age 10, and sang from a very young age. She participated in All-State and All-New England Choirs during high school, and sang with a choral group and a women’s a cappella singing group in college. She was a member of the Peninsula Women’s Chorus in Palo Alto, California. Lila received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Montana, where she focused on voice, composition, music technology and theory. She performed in the Puccini’s opera “Suor Angelica”, and has also performed in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “The Fantasticks” and “Once Upon a Mattress.”
Voice:
Every person’s voice is unique. Lila loves to help students discover their voices. She works with each student where they are, and encourages their musical knowledge as well as an understanding of their own voice. She focuses on the importance of healthy singing, and encourages every student to not only hear, but also feel their voice while they’re singing. Lila encourages students to explore different styles of singing, including classical, theater, and pop, so that they gain a broader understanding of singing styles and learn to use their voices in various ways. She also helps students connect with and truly express their music, in a safe and encouraging atmosphere.
Piano and Music Theory:
Lila teaches beginning piano, giving students a solid foundation on technique, reading music, and understanding music theory. She believes that the keyboard is an invaluable musical tool for learning music, regardless of where music might take a person. Some of her students study both singing and piano.
Digital Recording and Tutoring:
Lila teaches beginning digital recording classes using Apple recording software “GarageBand,” and is available for studio recording projects. She also tutors music theory and computer notation.
