"ARTIST PROFILE "

Bruce has taught music lessons for almost three decades on a number of instruments, including drums, guitar, tenor & 5-string banjo, mandolin and dobro. He has developed musical curriculum and has taught courses in other fields, ranging from wilderness education and scuba diving classes to college-level forestry and writing courses. His approach is to instruct in a personalized format according to the goals and aptitude of the student. He draws on his many years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist to bring a "synthesized" approach to teaching music---one that encourages students to learn how their instrument functions as a solo instrument and in a band context.

Bruce has a lengthy professional player's resume, which has served to compliment his teaching qualifications. He drummed and sang with the Atlanta-based band Right as Rain, beginning in the latter part of the eighties. This band had a successful multi-year run on the “college circuit,” recording two CD’s for the independent label, DB records. In 1997 he moved to Montana and began playing in the Cory Heydon Band, drumming on Cory’s Tapas Records debut release. This stint lasted for two years, after which followed a year of solo guitar gigs across Montana. While continuing to teach he began live and studio drum duties for the Tom Catmull Band, John Floridis, Bob Wire, Greg Leake, The Kent Curtiss Band, and the Country Kings. He currently plays with several Montana bands including The Bop-a-dips (drummer), John Floridis (drummer), The Country Kings (drummer), Quartet Caribe (drummer), The Acousticals (upright bass), and solo gigs playing guitar, banjo, and mandolin. He is currently working on his first solo cd, due to be released in the Spring of 2010.

Teaching has always been a significant part of Bruce’s life, and he brings a vast wealth of experience to Tangled Tones. He welcomes beginners to advanced players, and has the qualifications and experience to raise you to the “next” level of playing.
